The story
Save The Indy.
The Indy has been a hub of entertainment and artistic expression in the town for the best part of a century. After two years of closure, and a long, stubborn campaign led by a group of volunteers, the building came into community ownership in the spring of 2026.
It’s an old picture house on the high street — a 250-seat main auditorium and two smaller spaces. From 2014 until it shut at the start of 2024, it was the only cinema for twenty miles in any direction.
It runs now as a not-for-profit, programmed by people who live in the town. Tickets are kept affordable on purpose. Every penny of surplus goes back into the building — the seats, the projector, the heating, the roof, the people.
That only works if enough people choose to be part of it. Indy Friends is how we keep the doors open.
